Cool Time Management Strategy ...

4 Comments | Leave a Comment

todo2.jpgOK, this isn't a "radical" strategy, but it's a solid one that has served me well throughout the years as it relates to time management. It seems obvious, but I don't know many people who employ this simple strategy.

Whenever I have a bunch of to do items on my desk, I do an initial sort of them into piles based on:

  • What tasks must I do all by myself?
  • What tasks do I play a part in but others must contribute to?
  • What tasks must others do all by themselves?
Then, here's what I do:

  • If someone else needs to get it done all by themselves, I hand those items off first
  • If I need to get part of it done, then hand it off to someone else to finish or contribute, I do my part, then hand those off too
  • Then I focus 100% on the items I must complete myself in high productivity mode, pausing from time to time to work on something I passed off that comes back to me for further attention.
This way, while I'm working in high productivity mode, the other people are working on their parts or tasks simultaneously which gets everything done more quickly.

Try it, you'll like it!

There's Always A "Price" To Pay ...

Below is a link to an article that recently appeared in Orange County Weekly about one of the world's wealthiest men, Donald Bren.

It's such a brilliant and "right on" illustration of how stories unfold in Phase 1 of The Human Game that make it impossible to truly "win" the traditional Business Game -- no matter how much money, sales, profits, or net worth you pile up.

Even if  it seems like you're "winning" from a financial or numbers perspective, there's always a visible or invisible "price to pay" for what appears to be success.

In this case, the prices, visible and invisible, are obvious and fascinating. Check it out:
